Lab Libitum — Festiwal Ad Libitum: dzień drugi

13.09 Fri 19:00

Susan Alcorn, Mia Zabelka, Ben Dwyer are the pillars of this day’s festival concerts!

The evening at Hashtag Lab will be opened by Mia Zabelka, an Austrian improviser, vocalist and composer who ranks among the international elite of electroacoustic performance artists, appearing together with the highly promising duo Perforto, formed by Ola Rzepka — percussionist, pianist, composer and performer — and Łukasz Marciniak — guitarist and composer, who will appear twice at this year’s Ad Libitum: at the Improv Guitar Summit at Pardon, To Tu and here at Hashtag Lab.

The second set of the evening is a solo performance by the great lady of those distinctly American sounds of the Hawaiian electric guitar, Susan Alcorn. The guitar edition of Ad Libitum cannot do without exploring the great American tradition of this instrument. The Hawaiian guitar is perhaps the most American instrument of all, widely used in country and bluegrass, treated here by Susan Alcorn in a thoroughly unconventional, even experimental manner, with references to the concepts of Pauline Oliveros, Edgard Varèse and Peter Kowald.

Closing the evening is Ben Dwyer — remembered by us from the Blue Shroud Band formation of Barry Guy, which visited the festival: an exceptional Irish musician and composer who has spent years developing a unique concept of using the flamenco guitar in the context of contemporary and improvised music — in a quartet with Rafał Mazur, an artist well known to Ad Libitum audiences, with the phenomenal Harri Sjöström returning to AL, and for the first time here, Vasco Trilla.
