Clor x Kozieł x Beliah
Saturday evening at Hashtag Lab will be filled with improvisation. French cellist Stéphane Clor has invited the Polish-French duo Kozieł/Beliah to a musical encounter, and the stage at Barska will resound with freshness, energy and great intrigue.
In the first part of the concert we will hear the solo Rhizome by Stéphane Clor — cellist and visual artist permanently based in Strasbourg. Stéphane composes music for a specially adapted instrument known as a piccolo violoncello. In his music, alongside the sound of string instruments, he uses objects and electronics. His activity goes beyond the art of sound and touches at times on cartography, photography, drawing and ecology.
Stéphane Clor’s solo Rhizome is a musical image of a weed that, in a state of constant metamorphosis, enters into relationships with places that might serve as its shelter. The acoustically and electronically prepared piccolo cello becomes polymorphic and highly versatile. The sonic landscapes the artist creates are composed of granular lines, vibratory incantations and saturated repetitions, built on the interweaving of sound and silence.
The second part of the concert is the duo Kozieł/Beliah — an improvised intertwining of voice with double bass. Duo Kozieł/Beliah is a musical dialogue that has existed for over ten years. The duo improvises drawing on motifs from traditional music, centring on songs from various regions of Central Europe. The artists search for the sound that will complete the meaning of the song texts. The double bass becomes voice, the voice becomes pure sound, and together they build a unique energy.
