Cybulski / Zemiter

AAAA is an extra­or­di­nary com­bi­na­tion of acoustic instru­ment sounds, algo­rithms that par­tial­ly con­trol them, and impro­vi­sa­tion by three out­stand­ing musi­cians. Instru­ments designed and built by Krzysztof Cybul­s­ki — Post-Dig­i­tal Sax, Autovi­o­la, Aeromem­bra­nophone — allow for dig­i­tal con­trol of the pitch of played sounds, enabling explo­ration of a wide spec­trum of inter­ac­tions between musi­cians and instru­ments: from free impro­vi­sa­tion, through loop­ing phras­es, mutu­al note sug­ges­tions, elim­i­na­tion of the most or least fre­quent­ly occur­ring sounds, to com­po­si­tions dig­i­tal­ly gen­er­at­ed by the instru­ments and imposed on the musi­cians who retain only con­trol over rhythm, dynam­ics and artic­u­la­tion. Mean­while, the phys­i­cal­i­ty of acoustic instru­ments and the almost tan­gi­ble nature of their sound reduces the dis­tance between sound and per­form­ers and listeners.

STUDIOLO is anoth­er musi­cal meet­ing of Marcin Dymiter and Hubert Zem­ler dur­ing which they tran­scend the bound­aries of mutu­al influ­ence. Two sets of elec­tron­ic devices con­nect­ed into one organ­ism and two per­son­al­i­ties. Marcin and Hubert each cre­ate dif­fer­ent things sep­a­rate­ly. The ZEMITER project on prin­ci­ples of syn­er­gy com­bines their worlds cre­at­ing a qual­i­ty that nei­ther would have invent­ed on his own.
