4. AżTak Festiwal: KONTEMPLACJA

03.07-05.07 Thu-Sat

For the fourth time we invite the residents of Warsaw to the AżTak Festiwal — an exceptional celebration of contemporary art, which this year takes place under the theme CONTEMPLATION.

We pause to examine dream images and pictures arising in the imagination of a free person. We immerse ourselves in action through the experience of the state of flow. We search for traces of the creative act, as well as moments of meditative communion with art — sonic and visual.

As every year, we practice art without pretension. We go out into the city space, combining contemporary music with other art forms. What remains most important to us is direct contact: between audience and work, and between person and artist.

Throughout all the festival days we will be hosted in the neighboring Galeria B383, where it will be possible to experience an immersive sound massage. We will literally enter inside an instrument — the unique construction called SONORA SOUNDTUBE — and will also see an exhibition of works by Magdalena Lenartowicz.

DAY 1 — DREAM

The focus will be on the work of composer-in-residence Wojtek Blecharz — music intended for intimate, bodily experience in movement. On this day Hashtag Lab will transform into a sound laboratory. The program includes: a recital by Masashi Yamamoto (Japan) and the spatial work “FIELD 6.O” performed by Hashtag Ensemble. Check program details.

DAY 2 — IMMERSION

Awakening from the dream, we will set out on intercontinental sound journeys. Together with Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble (Ireland) we will travel from Colombia to Ireland and from Poland to the United States. We will also hear a new work by Lena Michajłów, composed especially on commission for Hashtag Ensemble.

Check details.

DAY 3 — CREATION

The day devoted to creation will be led by masters of space and image: Mark Rothko and Emanuel Vigeland. For the first time in Poland the iconic “Rothko Chapel” by Morton Feldman will sound, and there will also be a world premiere of “Tomba Emanuelle” — a composition by Teonika Rożynek, inspired by the acoustics of Vigeland’s mausoleum in Oslo. The monumental sound of the work will be processed by 22-channel electronics, 16 vocal voices and 6 instrumentalists.

We will conclude the festival at home, that is at Hashtag Lab, with an Electro Ambient Night — there will be time for conversation, reminiscing and rest.
