Preparacje i reperkusje

03.12 Wed 09:00

This workshop will enable participants to begin or deepen a practice of free improvisation. We will focus on expanding the sonic possibilities of the piano through preparation, and on drawing sounds from any part of the instrument.

Yielding to the hypnotic effects of sounds outside the grid of contemporary temperament, we will move towards freeing musical expression from the dictates of acquired habits. Work in trios and duos will foster a state of readiness for co-creating musical texture without prior agreement.

Marta J. Bogusławska

Music is a form of communication, a language through which we can convey meanings — and above all emotions. While performing music from notation might be compared to recitation, improvisation is a form of free conversation. We have monologues, dialogues and collective conversations. All people are capable of this from the moment they begin to speak at a few years old. Musicians can do it too, but sometimes these skills are suppressed in the process of musical education. In the performance we will present various forms of musical communication, juxtaposing, among other things, the sounds of piano and percussion instruments.
