Love Songs
When June blossoms and bears fruit, and bright sunshine streams into the Lab, we want more.
It is precisely in June, on Midsummer’s Eve, that light symbolically overcomes darkness. Kupała Night, or the Summer Solstice — the longest day and the shortest night, during which one can find the fern flower and love for a lifetime, fire joins with water and the laws of logic do not apply. Since ancient times the Slavs have honored this time with various rituals such as lighting bonfires, floating flower wreaths on water, gathering herbs and flowers, and even… hunting witches!
At Hashtag Lab we will be hunting no one, but the world of magic and ritual will be brought to us by Katarzyna Szwed and Paweł Janas. Both have created compositions specially for this occasion, inspired by the symbolism and customs celebrated on Kupała Night. For the second time the Hashtag musicians will stand on the roof of their home and play amidst the sounds of the city on unusual instruments: zither, cimbalom, portative organ, K‑dron and viola d’amore, and they will be joined by soprano Anna Zawisza. And after every night there always comes the sunrise, through which Terry Riley will guide us.
Come to Hashtag Lab, settle into the deckchairs in the garden, grab a refreshing lemonade and listen to stories of love at the time when the sun bows twice.
