FUTILITY — New Hashtag Ensemble Album on KAIROS

Hash­tag Ensem­ble becomes the first Pol­ish ensem­ble to release an album on the pres­ti­gious KAIROS label. The record “Futil­i­ty” fea­tures works by Rafał Zapała, per­formed by the ensem­ble in the Unit­ed States and Poland, along with one premiere.

Hash­tag Ensem­ble has col­lab­o­rat­ed with Rafał Zapała — a dis­tin­guished Poz­nań-based com­pos­er, co-ini­tia­tor of the com­mu­ni­ty project Kołork­ing Muzy­czny, and Ful­bright fel­low — since 2020. Four years of col­lab­o­ra­tion first yield­ed the con­cert pro­gramme “Intro­verts Col­lec­tive”, per­formed in the USA at Stan­ford and Berke­ley uni­ver­si­ties in Cal­i­for­nia and at Hash­tag Lab, fol­lowed by a com­mis­sioned com­po­si­tion — this time a solo work for vio­lin and elec­tron­ics — and final­ly a joint record­ing project.

We want the process of mak­ing new music — for com­posers, per­form­ers and col­lab­o­ra­tors — to build last­ing bonds. The kind that, years lat­er, allow you to find each oth­er on a dif­fer­ent con­ti­nent and pick up a con­ver­sa­tion about art as if you’d seen each oth­er yes­ter­day. — says Hash­tag Ensem­ble flautist Ania Karpowicz.
