Tova
The multimedia flute recital TOVA is the result of close collaboration between flutist Ania Karpowicz and young composers: Marta Śniady, Nina Fukuoka, Aleksandra Kaca and Teoniki Rożynek.
Marta Śniady in “4 rituals of women’s happiness” undertakes a reflection on the contemporary cult of the body — present, among others, in social media — but not in a journalistic context, but in a religious one. The word ritual, which has become established in aesthetic medicine offices, returns in the work to its basic meaning.
Nina Fukuoka in “Zansei” interprets the phenomenon of multicultural, multidimensional, undiscovered and mysterious identity with which we are born. “Zansei” means “last years”, in the work they are read as an attempt to escape oppressive reality and to experience the “remaining years” in harmony with one’s own nature.
Teoniki Rożynek in “SCREAM” lists varieties of screaming, both the loud, piercing kind and the silent one, deeply ingrained in women’s experience. A cry as disagreement, forever silenced, penalized, directed inward causes even greater devastation.
Ola Kaca in “Inner” turns inward, seeking intimacy and closeness in intersecting sounds. From documentary shots of skin with vitiligo, or body destroyed by pregnancies, she draws references to similar textures in nature, which in another context we perceive as beautiful, harmonious and valuable.
TOVA is a joint search by the soloist and composers around the sonic values of the flute — both acoustic, related to expanding and developing contemporary performance techniques, and electronic, related to various techniques of processing live and recorded sound.
The TOVA program had its digital premiere at the Sacrum Profanum festival in 2020, and its first stage performance at the KODY festival in 2021, since then it has been presented in Poland, Germany and Norway.
