Rust of Reverence: koncert i debata „Dzisiejsza kultura białoruska”

The title Rust of Reverence (literally “the rust of reverence” or “the erosion of glory”) alludes to the idea of the erosion of values, their abandonment and devaluation through time, shifting priorities and other circumstances.

Rust of Reverence is a work for ensemble, live electronics and video.

The work is deeply rooted in the tradition of Belarusian culture — the homeland of the composer, Andriej Evdokimov. In the musical narrative layer the composition refers to the richness of that culture, while simultaneously pointing to its fragility in the difficult socio-political reality. It is a reflection on the survival of culture and tradition in a world that often forces them to hide or radically transform.

In the electronic layer, original Belarusian folk songs and instrumental music have been used, subjected to intense digital transformations that preserve subtle echoes of the original material while simultaneously lending it a disturbing, inhuman quality. The video layer introduces visual references to the theme of the erosion of cultural memory and the significance of roots. The composition consists of 13 parts, lasting approximately 55 minutes.

Rust of Reverence is not only a musical narrative, but also an artistic meditation on memory, loss and the attempt to find new meaning in a distorted heritage.

During the event there will be a world premiere of Andriej Evdokimov’s composition Rust of Reverence, as well as a discussion panel on the situation of Belarusian artists. With the participation of creators from Belarus and Wojtek Zrałek-Kossakowski from Krytyka Polityczna, during the panel we will discuss the situation of Belarusian culture in recent years.
