Renewable Music

Renew­able Music. V4 Com­posers for Sus­tain­abil­i­ty is a project con­nect­ing com­posers, per­form­ers and arts insti­tu­tions from the Viseg­rád Group coun­tries (V4). Four select­ed can­di­dates from Poland, the Czech Repub­lic, Slo­va­kia and Hun­gary will com­pose new works address­ing the themes of ecol­o­gy and sus­tain­able resources. The pre­miere com­po­si­tions will be per­formed at open-air con­certs in four coun­tries, includ­ing by artists of Hash­tag Ensemble.

The pro­jec­t’s mis­sion goes beyond music itself — it sup­ports envi­ron­men­tal­ly friend­ly prac­tices, devel­ops the audi­ence’s eco­log­i­cal aware­ness, and demon­strates the con­nec­tion between art and the idea of sus­tain­able development.

As part of “Renew­able Music. V4 Com­posers for Sus­tain­abil­i­ty,” work­shops are being organ­ised, some of which will take place at the Con­tem­po­rary Music Space Hash­tag Lab. We will be host­ing Krzysztof Marcini­ak — musi­col­o­gist, crit­ic and acoustic ecol­o­gist — and envi­ron­men­tal edu­ca­tor Joan­na Taba­ka. The invit­ed guests will dis­cuss top­ics at the inter­sec­tion of music and ecol­o­gy. This will be fol­lowed by a prac­ti­cal ses­sion for the com­posers, who will con­sult their ideas for new works with the mem­bers of Hash­tag Ensemble.

The work­shops are intend­ed for project par­tic­i­pants. For the open ses­sion we invite you the fol­low­ing day (Sat­ur­day, 02.09) to the head­quar­ters of the Pol­ish Com­posers’ Union at Rynek Starego Mias­ta 27, 00–272 War­saw at 11:00. We will have the oppor­tu­ni­ty to hear pre­sen­ta­tions by: musi­col­o­gist Sła­womi­ra Żer­ańs­ka-Kominek, Warsza­wska Jesień direc­tor Jerzy Kornow­icz, and com­pos­er Woj­ciech Błażejczyk.
