Renewable Music
Renewable Music. V4 Composers for Sustainability is a project connecting composers, performers and arts institutions from the Visegrád Group countries (V4). Four selected candidates from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary will compose new works addressing the themes of ecology and sustainable resources. The premiere compositions will be performed at open-air concerts in four countries, including by artists of Hashtag Ensemble.
The project’s mission goes beyond music itself — it supports environmentally friendly practices, develops the audience’s ecological awareness, and demonstrates the connection between art and the idea of sustainable development.
As part of “Renewable Music. V4 Composers for Sustainability,” workshops are being organised, some of which will take place at the Contemporary Music Space Hashtag Lab. We will be hosting Krzysztof Marciniak — musicologist, critic and acoustic ecologist — and environmental educator Joanna Tabaka. The invited guests will discuss topics at the intersection of music and ecology. This will be followed by a practical session for the composers, who will consult their ideas for new works with the members of Hashtag Ensemble.
The workshops are intended for project participants. For the open session we invite you the following day (Saturday, 02.09) to the headquarters of the Polish Composers’ Union at Rynek Starego Miasta 27, 00–272 Warsaw at 11:00. We will have the opportunity to hear presentations by: musicologist Sławomira Żerańska-Kominek, Warszawska Jesień director Jerzy Kornowicz, and composer Wojciech Błażejczyk.
The “Renewable Music. V4 Composers for Sustainability” project is co-financed by the European Union under the Creative Europe 2021–2027 programme.
The Contemporary Music Space Hashtag Lab is co-financed by the Capital City of Warsaw.
