Nuci rzeczka

27.04 Sat 12:00

30 PLN

an intergenerational performative concert for children aged 3–7 and the adults close to them

Immersed in the sounds of composers such as Grażyna Bacewicz, Philip Glass and Henry Mancini, we will search for our own breath, dive into the recesses of our imagination, and — carried along on waves of music — allow our bodies, both the tiny ones and the large ones, to drift gently.

The human body is made up of roughly 70% water, and a newborn’s body even 80%. We will listen to those rivers inside us, let them rush and splash and pour this way and that… Who knows, perhaps along the way we will encounter other rivers and streams, and in the end we will try to flow in one current together? We will be guided by choreographer and dancer Aleksandra Bożek-Muszyńska.

“Nuci rzeczka” is a performative event combining live music and movement. Together with the artists, participants will stimulate their senses, bodies and imaginations. We invite you to come in clothes that allow free movement. Splash!

Premiere: 25.03.2023

Before and after the concerts, parents and carers with children are invited to enjoy treats at our café. The café is open from 9:00 to 14:00.

Aleksandra Bożek-Muszyńska | www.olabomu.com | www.holobiont.pl — Improviser, choreographer, performer. She is the creator of more than a dozen original choreographies, and her work has been presented in, among other places, Berlin, Budapest, Philadelphia, New York, Warsaw and Vienna. In 2017, together with Hanna Bylka-Kanecka, she founded the Holobiont collective, whose aim is interdisciplinary, multigenerational projects. One of her most recent choreographies, “Goździk w pustej muszli,” was recognised in the Best Dance Production of the 2021/22 season category by the monthly Teatr. In 2022 she created choreography for the production “Rodzina,” a co-production of TR and Teatr 21. In her work she explores the boundaries between simplicity and naivety, presentation and facilitation, and finding patterns and breaking them. The visual dimension and a distinctive sense of humour are characteristic of her work. Her body responds very well when it is allowed to do what it enjoys.

About the series

ĄsąBąble are performative concerts featuring new music for families with children aged 0–7. Each is built around an original script in which listening to music, interactive play and educational value are equally important. In a space that is welcoming to the very young, one can listen to music by leading contemporary composers in versions and proportions calibrated for small ears. The theatrical format of the concerts promotes concentration and allows the sounds to cast their spell, while the invitation to join in shared improvisations releases the natural expressive impulse of young people. In the spirit of Janusz Korczak’s words “There are no children, only people,” all participants are treated with respect and have a stake in how the event unfolds. The series presents exclusively music of the 20th and 21st centuries. A permanent element is the presentation of a recording of a symphonic work or a work from the field of sound design and electronics.

Although each edition of ĄsąBąble takes a musical fabric as its starting point, it is also rich in non-musical contexts close to Hashtag Ensemble’s practice: literary, visual, social. The events are interdisciplinary in character: invited artists who have long worked in close proximity to children’s imagination also take part — dancers, performers, illustrators and writers. Theatre is the natural terrain of new music, which is why actor training for musicians is also part of the educational character of the ĄsąBąble series.

The curator and host of the series is Anna Szawiel — an actor and narrator who specialises in interdisciplinary cultural and educational events. She likes to work on borders: between concert and performance, education and play, physicality and abstraction, always in connection with children’s imagination. The concert programmes are co-created by the musicians of Hashtag Ensemble.

The ĄsąBąble project creatively develops the concept of the “Smykowizje” series of the “Muzyka jest dla wszystkich” foundation, within which in 2016–2022 Hashtag Ensemble and Anna Szawiel performed together more than 130 concerts and mini-performances, searching for the most interesting forms of presenting new music. The concept and curatorship of Smykowizje was the work of Anna Kierkosz. It was the first series of events in Poland addressed to the very youngest, in which contemporary music played the lead role.

The Contemporary Music Space Hashtag Lab is co-financed by the Capital City of Warsaw.
