iubar project

04.07 Tue 19:00

Iubar is a project by Polish artist Martin Koszolko, based in Australia, a music producer known for his collaboration with the electronic acts KOshowKO and Philosophy of Sound. The philosophically charged music of the iubar project is an ode to resistance and hope; it invites listeners to confront the raw reality of a world in crisis and to look towards a possible future.

The characteristic sound of iubar is ambient created using a mixture of analogue and digital instruments and field recordings. In live performances the musician employs mobile music-making technologies as well as audience sampling techniques. The artist investigates improvisation and co-improvisation techniques, and the agency of the audience in electronic performance, using, among other things, live sampling of voices and non-verbal sounds produced by the audience.

Be part of the concert

We encourage you to record and send, before the concert, a response to the question: “collectively or individually”?

Here are a few further prompts (though you can also speak freely without them):

Do you believe there is strength in numbers? Or are you more of a lone wolf type?

When are you in your element — working with others or independently?

Do you have any wild stories about group projects or individual work? Share them!

Do you know what your “superpowers” are in teamwork or as an individual?

Do you prefer teamwork and brainstorming, or do you prefer to make a decision alone and act quickly without consultation?

What obstacles do you encounter when working as a team or individually? How do you deal with them?

Do you have any funny anecdotes about situations when collaboration produced great results, or on the contrary, took chaos to a higher level?

Audio samples submitted online and recorded live during the performance at Hashtag Lab are synthesised, sequenced and processed by the performer using mobile devices. The performer will present 2 different musical interpretations of the sound material recorded with the audience, and the audience will be able to choose their favourite version by vote.

The Contemporary Music Space Hashtag Lab is co-financed by the Capital City of Warsaw.
