Dźwiękoksiężnik

We invite our youngest lis­ten­ers into a mag­i­cal world of sounds – musi­cal and non-musi­cal, beau­ti­ful and irri­tat­ing, ordi­nary… and quite extraordinary.

The heroes of the chil­dren’s micro-opera “Dźwiękok­siężnik” — the Sound­wiz­ard and his assis­tant Kle­o­fas — spe­cialise in brew­ing son­ic elixirs. Their work­shop brims with all man­ner of sounds: intrigu­ing sounds of nature as well as the loud noise of work­ing machines. One day the wiz­ards receive a task that seems impos­si­ble to com­plete: they must cre­ate an elixir of silence for a cer­tain lady who can­not bear the noise sur­round­ing her. The dif­fi­cul­ty of con­coct­ing such a potion moti­vates the friends to set out into the world in search of per­fect silence.

The cast is small. Besides the soloists, you will hear oboe, cel­lo, piano and elec­tron­ics. An impor­tant aspect of the musi­cal lay­er is the exten­sive use of extend­ed instru­men­tal tech­niques and extend­ed vocal tech­niques. The use of such sounds as play­ing on the oboe reed, strik­ing the res­o­nance box of the cel­lo, mul­ti­phon­ics, over­tone singing and every­day objects to pro­duce sounds echoes the libret­to of “Dźwiękok­siężnik”, which tells of the extra­or­di­nary, hyp­not­ic sounds cre­at­ed by the title char­ac­ter. The elec­tron­ics lay­er — a key ele­ment of the son­ic-musi­cal lab­o­ra­to­ry — is also rich in uncon­ven­tion­al sounds.
