Dźwiękoksiężnik
We invite our youngest listeners into a magical world of sounds – musical and non-musical, beautiful and irritating, ordinary… and quite extraordinary.
The heroes of the children’s micro-opera “Dźwiękoksiężnik” — the Soundwizard and his assistant Kleofas — specialise in brewing sonic elixirs. Their workshop brims with all manner of sounds: intriguing sounds of nature as well as the loud noise of working machines. One day the wizards receive a task that seems impossible to complete: they must create an elixir of silence for a certain lady who cannot bear the noise surrounding her. The difficulty of concocting such a potion motivates the friends to set out into the world in search of perfect silence.
The cast is small. Besides the soloists, you will hear oboe, cello, piano and electronics. An important aspect of the musical layer is the extensive use of extended instrumental techniques and extended vocal techniques. The use of such sounds as playing on the oboe reed, striking the resonance box of the cello, multiphonics, overtone singing and everyday objects to produce sounds echoes the libretto of “Dźwiękoksiężnik”, which tells of the extraordinary, hypnotic sounds created by the title character. The electronics layer — a key element of the sonic-musical laboratory — is also rich in unconventional sounds.
