Dźwiękoksiężnik
We invite our youngest listeners into the magical world of sounds — musical and non-musical, beautiful and irritating, ordinary… and quite out of the ordinary.
The characters of the children’s micro-opera “Dźwiękoksiężnik” — the Soundwizard and his assistant Kleofas — specialise in brewing sonic elixirs. Their workshop seethes with all manner of sounds — intriguing tones from nature, but also the loud noises of working machines. One day the wizards receive a task that seems impossible: they must create an elixir of silence for a certain lady who cannot bear the noise surrounding her. The difficulty of concocting such a mixture motivates the friends to set off into the world in search of the perfect silence.
The cast is small. In addition to the soloists, you will hear oboe, cello, piano, and electronics. An important aspect of the musical layer is the extensive use of extended instrumental and vocal techniques. The use of sounds such as playing on the oboe reed, striking the resonating body of the cello, multiphonics, overtone singing, and everyday objects to produce sounds connects to the libretto of “Dźwiękoksiężnik”, which tells of the extraordinary, hypnotic sounds produced by the title character. The electronic layer, also rich in unconventional sounds, is an important element of this sound-and-music laboratory.
