Dzień, w którym skrzypce miały dość
A concert inspired by the bestselling book “The Day the Crayons Quit” by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers.
One day the crayons disappear from the box. Red is overworked after a whole season (fire engines, Father Christmases, Valentine hearts), Blue is so short it has almost vanished (all those vast oceans and skies!), Black has had enough of being only outlines (black is also a colour!), and Pink is dreaming of a dinosaur. The crayons want to break out of their roles and finally scribble something completely different. So much for the book (which we will summon physically and through narration at the event).
But instruments also have their very specific shapes, colours and roles. Might they not sometimes grow bored with them? Don’t they dream of escaping from the case? Could the violin not secretly want to be a little bit wind? Does the voice not tire of singing? And what about the clarinet — does it not sometimes long to sing? And the accordion. Always that accompaniment — but what if…
Free and playful searches for ways out of these roles will be enabled by the wonderful music of, among others, Béla Bartók and Eddy Flecijn, as well as the famous piece “Kolorowe kredki” by Wiera Badalska and Marian Sawa, performed by musicians and improvisers from Hashtag Ensemble. Colourful crayons will naturally make a personal appearance too. We will draw green suns, pink clarinets, and perhaps flying rabbits — all the things you hear in the music and that your imagination, awakened by the sounds, suggests to you.

About the series:
ĄsąBąble are performative concerts of new music for families with children aged 0–7. Each event is built around an original script in which listening to music, interactive games and educational value are equally important. In a space welcoming to the very youngest, audiences can hear music by leading contemporary composers, adapted in proportion and presentation for small ears. The theatrical format of the concerts encourages concentration and allows children to become enchanted by sound, while invitations to join improvised activities release the natural need for expression in young people. In the spirit of Janusz Korczak’s words “There are no children, there are people”, all participants are treated with respect and have their part in the unfolding of each event. The series presents exclusively 20th- and 21st-century music. A regular element is the presentation of a recording of a symphonic work or a piece from the sound design and electronics tradition.
