Inter­na­tion­al 2025: this is our guid­ing theme for the whole year. This time we meet to strength­en Pol­ish-Ger­man ties of cul­tur­al exchange.

Hash­tag Ensem­ble (War­saw) and the Alexan­der Camaro Foun­da­tion (Berlin) have entered into a col­lab­o­ra­tion which has result­ed in the cre­ation of new musi­cal ded­i­ca­tions com­posed by Pol­ish com­posers — Alek­san­dra Bil­ińs­ka and Woj­ciech Błaże­jczyk — ded­i­cat­ed to the Berlin per­cus­sion­ist and ini­tia­tor of today’s con­cert, Sab­ri­na Ma, and to our ensem­ble — Hash­tag Ensemble.

The point of ref­er­ence for the pre­mieres is the work of the Wrocław-born artist Alexan­der Camaro (1901–1992), painter, graph­ic artist, dancer and poet.

In addi­tion to the two com­mis­sioned works, Sab­ri­na Ma will per­form solo works by the Swiss com­pos­er Lucien Danzeisen, cre­at­ed with the sup­port of the Aar­gauer Kuratorium.

About the soloist:

Born in 1985 in Hong Kong, Sab­ri­na Ma is a mul­ti-per­cus­sion­ist who cur­rent­ly lives in Berlin. She is a pas­sion­ate per­former of con­tem­po­rary music and col­lab­o­rates with the most inter­est­ing com­posers, writ­ers, the­atre direc­tors and con­tem­po­rary dancers. The artist has fre­quent­ly col­lab­o­rat­ed with cre­ators such as Flo­ri­an Bergmann, Lucien Danzeisen, Markus Bon­gartz and Artur Kroschel as well as the­atre groups Van Bebber/Hofmann and andcompany&co. In her solo prac­tice Sab­ri­na Ma focus­es on themes of inter­cul­tur­al exchange and cor­po­re­al­i­ty, and leads mas­ter­class­es, work­shops and per­for­mances in Ger­many and abroad.

She has per­formed in Europe, Asia, North Amer­i­ca, Aus­tralia and at fes­ti­vals includ­ing Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darm­stadt, Lucerne Fes­ti­val Acad­e­my, Warsza­wska Jesień, Time for Music Viitasaari, Klangspuren Schwaz, Bozen Transart Fes­ti­val, Inter­na­tionale Kam­mer­musik­tage Hom­burg, Fringe Fes­ti­val Tor­roel­la de Mont­grí, Fest­spiele Meck­len­burg-Vor­pom­mern, Roar­ing Hooves Fes­ti­val (Mon­go­lia) and Two Days and Two Nights of New Music Fes­ti­val (Ukraine).

Sab­ri­na Ma’s per­for­mances have been sup­port­ed by insti­tu­tions such as the Goethe-Insti­tut, Deutsch­er Musik­wet­tbe­werb, Konz­ert des Deutschen Musikrates (Ger­man Music Coun­cil) and Hong Kong Leisure and Cul­tur­al Ser­vices Depart­ment. Her debut CD “Play­time!” was released by GENUIN in col­lab­o­ra­tion with Deutschlandfunk.

Sab­ri­na Ma has received numer­ous awards, includ­ing the Ger­man Music Com­pe­ti­tion Prize (2013) and 1st prize in the solo cat­e­go­ry of the 14th Inter­na­tion­al Con­tem­po­rary Music Com­pe­ti­tion in Poland (2010). She stud­ied at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Michi­gan (USA) under Prof. Michael Udow and at the Hochschule für Musik Karl­sruhe (Ger­many) under Prof. Isao Nakamura.

Thanks to the sup­port of the Foun­da­tion for Pol­ish-Ger­man Coop­er­a­tion and the Goethe-Insti­tut, the Alexan­der and Rena­ta Camaro Foun­da­tion (Berlin) and Hash­tag Lab (War­saw) are orga­niz­ing a joint musi­cal project ded­i­cat­ed to the work of Alexan­der Camaro. Com­posers Alek­san­dra Bil­ińs­ka, Woj­ciech Błaże­jczyk and Lucien Danzeisen were invit­ed to com­pose new works for per­cus­sion­ist Sab­ri­na Ma and the musi­cians of Hash­tag Ensem­ble, which musi­cal­ly explore A. Camaro’s art. The result is com­pelling works for per­cus­sion instru­ments and ensem­ble that make it pos­si­ble to expe­ri­ence Camaro’s art through sound. The new com­po­si­tions will be pre­sent­ed at two con­certs in War­saw and Berlin, accom­pa­nied by artist talks and com­po­si­tion work­shops. Inter­est­ed guests can expect a var­ied and dynam­ic program.

Inter­na­tion­al 2025 – unser Leit­mo­tiv für das gesamte Jahr. Dieses Mal tre­f­fen wir uns, um die deutsch-pol­nis­chen kul­turellen Aus­tauschbeziehun­gen zu stärken.

Hash­tag Ensem­ble (Warschau) und die Alexan­der und Rena­ta Camaro Stiftung (Berlin) haben eine Zusam­me­nar­beit aufgenom­men, die zur Entste­hung neuer Musikdedika­tio­nen geführt hat, geschaf­fen von den pol­nis­chen Komponist:innen Alek­san­dra Bil­ińs­ka und Woj­ciech Błaże­jczyk. Diese Werke sind der Berlin­er Perkus­sion­istin Sab­ri­na Ma gewid­met, die heutige Auf­führung ini­ti­iert hat, sowie unserem Ensem­ble – Hash­tag Ensemble.

Die Pre­miere bezieht sich auf Werke des in Bres­lau gebore­nen Kün­stlers Alexan­der Camaro (1901–1992), der außer­dem Maler, Grafik­er, Tänz­er und Dichter war.

Neben den bei­den bestell­ten Kom­po­si­tio­nen wird Sab­ri­na Ma unter anderem Solo-Werke des Schweiz­er Kom­pon­is­ten Lucien Danzeisen auf­führen, die mit Unter­stützung der Musik­fonds und des Aar­gauer Kura­to­ri­ums ent­standen sind.

Der Raum für zeit­genös­sis­che Musik Hash­tag Lab wird mit­fi­nanziert von der Stadt Warschau.

Das Goethe-Insti­tut unter­stützt Sab­ri­na Ma mit einem großzügi­gen Reis­es­tipendi­um für ihr kün­st­lerisch-päd­a­gogis­ches Musikprojekt.

Über die Solistin:

Sab­ri­na Ma, geboren 1985 in Ply­mouth (Großbri­tan­nien) und aufgewach­sen in Hongkong, ist eine viel­seit­ige Perkus­sion­istin, die derzeit in Berlin lebt. Sie ist eine lei­den­schaftliche Inter­pretin zeit­genös­sis­ch­er Musik und arbeit­et seit fast 20 Jahren mit her­aus­ra­gen­den Komponist:innen, Autor:innen, Theaterregisseur:innen und Tänz­er: innen zusammen

Sie trat in Europa, Asien, Nor­dameri­ka, Aus­tralien sowie bei Fes­ti­vals wie den Ferienkursen für Neue Musik Darm­stadt, der Lucerne Fes­ti­val Acad­e­my, der Warschauer Herb­st, Time for Music Viitasaari, Klangspuren Schwaz, Bozen Transart Fes­ti­val, Inter­na­tionale Kam­mer­musik­tage Hom­burg, Fringe Fes­ti­val Tor­roel­la de Mont­grí, Fest­spiele Meck­len­burg-Vor­pom­mern, Roar­ing Hooves Fes­ti­val (Mon­golei) und Two Days and Two Nights of New Music Fes­ti­val (Ukraine) auf.

Sab­ri­na Ma erhielt zahlre­iche Ausze­ich­nun­gen, darunter den Preis des Deutschen Musik­wet­tbe­werbs (2013) und den 1. Preis in der Solokat­e­gorie des 14. Inter­na­tionalen Wet­tbe­werbs für zeit­genös­sis­che Musik in Polen (2010).
