AżTak Festiwal 2023

06.07-08.07 Thu-Sat

10 PLN

This year the AżTak Festival will take audiences to completely new territories and diverting attention for a moment from fake news, climate crisis and armed conflicts invite them to enter a private, intimate space known only to them.

During the festival events, Hashtag Ensemble will offer deep reflection on the surrounding reality, healthy activism carried out in collaboration with local communities and recovery of contact with one’s own body and emotions.

The motto of this year’s festival is HOME. Just a few months ago we opened a social cultural institution – Contemporary Music Space Hashtag Lab. The villa on Stara Ochota became our first permanent musical home, and at the same time a home for contemporary music in Warsaw. That’s why we invite you here for evening concerts. We will perform on the summer stage and inside the modernist building at Barska 29. We will also be present in the city space, looking for new forms of listening, finding time for a moment’s return to the body tired by the long winter.

On the first day of the festival, we invite you to the opening of a photography exhibition created with pinhole cameras designed under the direction of Kacper Bartczak and interpreting home as a space of many meanings. Selected photographs will serve the improvising group Hashtag Ensemble as graphic scores in the evening concert.

The second day of the festival will bring music of home “à rebours”, a dark home where we encounter our deepest fears. The performative concert titled “Chills” will be filled with works by Nina Fukuoki, constituting a study of fear as part of the composer’s “Horror Project”. Almost all corners of Hashtag Lab will sound ominous, and after the concert we invite you to a film screening and discussion.

In the festival finale you will hear a concert titled “Touch”, in which home becomes the space of our closest relationships. We will hear loving compositions by Julia Wolfe, Kevin Juillerat, Jacob Ter Veldhuis and Jakub Krzywiński. After the concert, we invite you to an after-party in the garden.
