Posłuchy
Echoes, undertones, and distant reverberations of imagined musical realms — waves of “successive contrasts” will envelop us in the resonance of a live voice, acoustic instruments and digitally generated sounds. We invite you to experience this uncharted sonic territory at the concert.
What remains in your mind in the moment after a sound gives way to sudden silence? Could these be “echoes” akin to the “afterimages” of Władysław Strzemiński? Do you also sometimes almost hear the first song on a familiar album before its opening notes have even sounded? What music plays as you walk along a Masurian trail on a warm summer night? Imagined sounds are not only an abstract concept of avant-garde composers — they are also part of our everyday life, something we sometimes pass by indifferently. It is worth pausing to look more closely at this extraordinary, phantasmagoric realm to which no one else has access. It is inhabited by instruments, objects, and above all — familiar voices.
We invite you to a shared experience of the abundance of meaning in the sound of the human voice, whose living presence binds together all the works programmed in the Posłuchy concert. We open with Sławomir Kupczak’s Kołysanka, which had its world premiere during the pandemic lockdown at the Ad Libitum festival in 2020. The semi-open score invites performers to follow their own intuition and the haunting sound of the vocal part.
The next work on the programme — the title piece Posłuchy — will receive its world premiere and was commissioned from composer Marcin Stańczyk by Hashtag Ensemble with the support of the Compositional Commissions programme. With the guest participation of mezzo-soprano Magdalena Deptuła, this work draws inspiration from Polish traditional music and transforms simple melodies into ephemeral “successive contrasts”.
After the concert there will be a meeting with the composer, Marcin Stańczyk, hosted by Krzysztof Stefański and Lilianna Krych.
