Second:ary Premiere in Utrecht

On 7 September, as part of the Gaudeamus contemporary music festival in Utrecht, Hashtag Ensemble will premiere the programme Second:ary, created under the artistic direction of Ania Karpowicz at the invitation of the international initiative ULYSSES’ InSitu/City.

For many years, Hashtag Ensemble has been bringing contemporary music to unexpected spaces, directing our work toward unconventional audiences, and cherishing collaborations of a social nature.

In the Netherlands, we will meet extraordinary guides — residents of refugee centres, young people and adults from around the world, will show us around Utrecht as their second home. The musicazc.utrecht community works with refugees from Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Belarus, Ukraine and other corners of the world. From fragments of recordings, scraps of poems and remembered images, Hashtag Ensemble will compose an hour-long concert.

The Second:ary programme is part of Hashtag Ensemble’s mission to bring contemporary music beyond concert halls, music universities, and the narrow circle of connoisseurs and aficionados.
