Łucja Chyrzyńska

Łuc­ja Chyrzyńs­ka (b. 1998) – flautist, Young Artist of Wm. S. Haynes Co. Flute Com­pa­ny, grad­u­ate of the Krzysztof Pen­derec­ki Acad­e­my of Music in Kraków, where she com­plet­ed her master’s degree with dis­tinc­tion in 2023 in the flute class of Prof. Wiesław Suruło.

A lau­re­ate of numer­ous nation­al and inter­na­tion­al com­pe­ti­tions, includ­ing the Grand Prix at the World Clas­si­cal Music Awards; First Prizes at the Amer­i­can Vir­tu­oso Inter­na­tion­al Music Com­pe­ti­tion, the 9th Stock­holm Inter­na­tion­al Music Com­pe­ti­tion, the 3rd Inter­na­tion­al Instru­men­tal Per­for­mance Com­pe­ti­tion, the Tokyo Inter­na­tion­al Youth Music Com­pe­ti­tion; Sec­ond Prize at the Flutes by the Sea Inter­na­tion­al Flute Com­pe­ti­tion. As a soloist, cham­ber musi­cian and orches­tral per­former, she par­tic­i­pates in numer­ous artis­tic projects, ini­tia­tives and cul­tur­al events, includ­ing inter­na­tion­al fes­ti­vals, con­fer­ences and sym­posia. In 2022, she per­formed with the Lat­vian Nation­al Sym­pho­ny Orches­tra. She active­ly per­forms through­out Europe and Asia.

She spe­cialis­es in con­tem­po­rary music per­for­mance, which she has been active­ly pro­mot­ing in Poland and abroad for many years. She has giv­en numer­ous world and Pol­ish pre­mieres, includ­ing at Darm­städter Ferienkurse (2025), the Sza­lone Dni Muzy­ki Inter­na­tion­al Fes­ti­val (2025), AżTak Fes­ti­val (2025), AudioArt Fes­ti­val (2025), the Kraków Inter­na­tion­al Fes­ti­val of Com­posers (2016, 2018, 2019), the War­saw Autumn Inter­na­tion­al Fes­ti­val of Con­tem­po­rary Music (2018), the New Music Con­certs organ­ised by the Depart­ment of Com­po­si­tion of the Krzysztof Pen­derec­ki Acad­e­my of Music in Kraków, the ELEMENTI Con­fer­ence (2018), as well as oth­er sig­nif­i­cant cul­tur­al events. Her artis­tic prac­tice also encom­pass­es exper­i­men­tal music and improvisation.

In 2024, on the basis of her artis­tic achieve­ments and con­tri­bu­tion to the devel­op­ment of new music, Chyrzyńs­ka was select­ed as a lau­re­ate of the sec­ond edi­tion of the Akademia PRO men­tor­ing pro­gramme of Hash­tag Ensem­ble; two years lat­er, she joined the ensem­ble as its offi­cial member.

An impor­tant area of her artis­tic activ­i­ty is ped­a­gogy, music edu­ca­tion and men­tor­ing. Since 2024, at the invi­ta­tion of the Depart­ment of Com­po­si­tion of the Krzysztof Pen­derec­ki Acad­e­my of Music in Kraków, she has been deliv­er­ing guest lec­tures for stu­dents devot­ed to extend­ed flute tech­niques as well as the speci­fici­ty and reper­toire of the instru­ment. For the past two years, she has been run­ning her own pri­vate flute stu­dio, with­in which she teach­es flute per­for­mance and music the­o­ry both to indi­vid­u­als out­side the for­mal sys­tem of artis­tic edu­ca­tion and to those prepar­ing for a pro­fes­sion­al musi­cal career.

Chyrzyńs­ka is a three-time recip­i­ent of the Rector’s Schol­ar­ship for Out­stand­ing Stu­dents at the Krzysztof Pen­derec­ki Acad­e­my of Music in Kraków (2018, 2021, 2022). She par­tic­i­pat­ed twice in inter­na­tion­al stu­dent exchange pro­grammes with­in Eras­mus+, fur­ther devel­op­ing her skills at the Sibelius Acad­e­my in Helsin­ki under Prof. Mikael Helasvuo (2019) and at the Jāzeps Vītols Lat­vian Acad­e­my of Music in Riga in the flute class of Prof. Ilze Urbāne (2022–2023).

She has par­tic­i­pat­ed in numer­ous mas­ter­class­es, sym­posia and aca­d­e­m­ic con­fer­ences. In 2025, she was select­ed to take part in the Inter­na­tion­al Sum­mer Cours­es for New Music in Darm­stadt (Darm­städter Ferienkurse), devel­op­ing her per­for­mance qual­i­fi­ca­tions in the flute class of the dis­tin­guished flautist Claire Chase. She is cur­rent­ly col­lab­o­rat­ing with the artist on the real­i­sa­tion of Pol­ish pre­mieres of works from the reper­toire of Den­si­ty Arts – an Amer­i­can organ­i­sa­tion found­ed by Chase in 2013, ded­i­cat­ed to the advance­ment of con­tem­po­rary flute music. She also par­tic­i­pat­ed twice in the Sum­mer Cours­es of New Music for Per­form­ers in Byd­goszcz (2022, 2024), with Ewa Liebchen and Szy­mon Bywalec among the course fac­ul­ty. She fur­ther refined her artis­tic prac­tice through mas­ter­class­es, work­ing with renowned flautists and ped­a­gogues, includ­ing Robert Dick, Helen Bled­soe, Andrea Oli­va, Anna Garzu­la-Wahlgren, Wal­ly Hase, Gareth McLearnon, Nuno Iná­cio, Mari­na Cam­ponês, Dejan Gavrić, Johan­na Dömötör, Sarah Lou­vion, Renate Greiss-Armin, Raf­faele Tre­visani, Paulo Tabal­lione, Adria Stern­stein-Fos­ter, Bar­bara Świątek-Żelazny, Ewa Murawska, Urszu­la Janik, Elż­bi­eta Woleńska.
