We invite you to the closing concert of the year celebrating the tenth anniversary of Hashtag Ensemble! We celebrate 10 years of the ensemble — join us for the maniFEST!

If we are going to celebrate joyfully, then bring on the popcorn and paper party hats — so we will stay mostly in the circle of American composers.
We open with David Lang and Sweet Air, where we will play with rhythmic, almost infantile counting rhymes written on laughing gas. Contemporary music can, after all, be openly cheerful and pleasant to the ear, and complicated concepts can sometimes be tucked away in a drawer.

Ted Hearne’s Furtive Movements will show us the strength of close collaborations and the power of synergy, where many years of shared musical experience yield a perfect and unrepeatable understanding. A cello and percussion duo will take the stage and offer a study in details and the smallest, sometimes hidden gestures. The second duo of the evening will be viola and clarinet, in Guillaume Connesson’s Disco-Toccata.

When we founded Hashtag Ensemble 10 years ago in Eastern Europe, in a post-socialist country renowned for complaining, we dreamed of creating a space for ease, authenticity and the energy of the legendary American group Bang on a Can — so this evening cannot go without Tod Reynolds, and we will perform his Seven Sundays.

On such an important occasion, a concert without the participation of female composers was out of the question. For the grand finale we will therefore joyfully perform Holly Harrison and her Bend/Boogie/Break. May this piece — seductively energetic and technically ferocious — lead us, almost without detours, into a wild afterparty.
