SoundBank
On one side of the scales will be the music of Viacheslav Kyrylov, born of philosophical reflection, reaching into the astonishing and mystical spirituality of the Middle Ages; on the other — the sound world of Wojciech Błażejczyk — thoroughly contemporary, our own, represented by objectophones. We invite you to the SoundBank concert performed by Spółdzielnia Muzyczna Contemporary Ensemble.
For those for whom music is a way to filter thoughts, examine phenomena or attitudes, and spark reflection — the concert will undoubtedly offer an opportunity for such practice. For those who prefer a more phenomenological mode of listening — good news as well — experience shows that the sonic worlds of both composers have something magnetic about them and allow themselves to be absorbed without unnecessary barriers. Both composers approach sonic material with care and great sensitivity. There is no excess, yet one can feel an extraordinary degree of refinement.
Gentleness and humility do not seem like compelling themes for contemporary art, just as they are distant from the reality of the 21st century, marked by wars, a pandemic, demanding from us resistance, assertiveness in political debates and taking sides in a polarised society. Is dipped in meekness — a cool philosophical discourse or a composer’s response to the needs of contemporary people? Perhaps an expression of hope? And here we move seamlessly to the music and observations of Wojciech Błażejczyk, who at one point diagnosed the future of humanity negatively (as expressed in, among others, his Postkwartet). At the same time the composer gives voice to a particular fascination with the sound world within our reach — in objects, often through electronics, sounding in his work in extraordinary and captivating ways. In the work composed for the Kraków ensemble, Błażejczyk seems to continue along the path charted earlier, including in Liturgia obiektu.
The world premieres of SoundBank of Modern Human and dipped in meekness will take place during the recurring INTERAKCJE concert, on 7 December in Kraków. With the kind support of Hashtag Ensemble, Spółdzielnia Muzyczna extends the celebration of its 10th anniversary and also invites you to Warsaw on 15 December.
