f.i.m.m. Wojtek Kurek i Katarzyna Podpora

f.i.m.m. is an ini­tia­tive by Mar­ta Grzywacz. A con­cert series in which an invit­ed impro­vis­er cre­ates music spon­ta­neous­ly, with­out pri­or sketch­es or prepa­ra­tion, togeth­er with a musi­cal com­pan­ion of their own choosing.

The pro­gram­mat­ic premise of the series is to empha­size the ethe­re­al nature of music as such. For this rea­son, the impro­vised work that emerges dur­ing the con­certs is not record­ed in any way, so that it remains lit­er­al­ly irre­pro­ducible. Per­haps this gen­uine unique­ness of the event will mark the way in which we lis­ten to such once-only music.

Wojtek Kurek – per­cus­sion­ist, impro­vis­er, com­pos­er of the­atre music. He pro­grams cus­tom effects and instru­ments, process­es acoustic sound to cre­ate organ­ic struc­tures. He uses neur­al dig­i­tal tools. He has released over 30 albums in Poland, USA, Ger­many, Aus­tria, Italy, Por­tu­gal and Scot­land. He co-cre­ates the trio Tule­je (Zaga­jew­s­ka, Wój­cińs­ki) and a duo with dancer Olga Balińska.

Katarzy­na Pod­po­ra – mul­ti­me­dia artist con­nect­ed to the sea — its audi­al space, move­ment, and influ­ence on hard mat­ter; trans­la­tor; doc­tor of arts in sculp­ture and inter­me­dia; lives and works in Gdańsk. In her cre­ative work she address­es ques­tions of mate­ri­al­i­ty and the sub­jec­tiv­i­ty of beings (both liv­ing and non-liv­ing), ephemer­al and per­for­ma­tive forms, and proces­su­al­i­ty and mem­o­ry — in the con­text of record­ing made through var­i­ous media, includ­ing audio record­ings, text and pho­tog­ra­phy. She focus­es on lis­ten­ing to mat­ter and space. As a cre­ator of exper­i­men­tal and impro­vised music (includ­ing in the duo PODPORA/KOHYT https://​pod​po​rako​hyt​.band​camp​.com) — she works with a sig­nif­i­cant range of instru­ments made from mate­ri­als con­sid­ered waste, includ­ing remains of non-human beings — ani­mal bones, dead plant parts, as well as bro­ken instru­ments, dam­aged vinyl records and field record­ing tapes. She has pre­sent­ed her works at numer­ous exhi­bi­tions and con­tem­po­rary art and music festivals.
