2025 is the offi­cial Year of Quan­tum. But could quan­tum sim­u­la­tions be used to influ­ence sound in real time?

Dur­ing his con­cert — the cul­mi­na­tion of his doc­tor­al research — Bartłomiej Sutt will not only answer that ques­tion but will also show oth­er ways of com­bin­ing per­cus­sion with electronics.

Three com­po­si­tions cre­at­ed as part of his doc­tor­ate explore this tan­dem in dif­fer­ent ways, show­cas­ing the remark­able pos­si­bil­i­ties offered by the lat­est tech­no­log­i­cal advances. Hash­tag Lab will fill with exper­i­men­tal sounds, unusu­al har­mon­ics and inter­ac­tive visu­als, all over­seen by a sin­gle artist.

More about the artist:

Bartłomiej Sutt was born in 1998 in Gdańsk. He began his jour­ney through the world of music at the age of 7, and his great­est pas­sion is per­cus­sion instru­ments. In 2020 he grad­u­at­ed from The Roy­al Dan­ish Acad­e­my of Music in Copen­hagen with the high­est grade for his bach­e­lor’s diplo­ma. He spent his third year of stud­ies in France, study­ing with one of the most out­stand­ing per­cus­sion­ists of our time, Prof. Emmanuel Séjourné, at the Haute École des Arts du Rhin in Stras­bourg. In Octo­ber 2020 he began his mas­ter’s stud­ies at the Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­si­ty of Music in War­saw, which he com­plet­ed with dis­tinc­tion. He remained there to begin his doc­tor­al stud­ies and research in Octo­ber 2022. Despite his young age he has achieved sig­nif­i­cant artis­tic suc­cess­es, win­ning awards at pres­ti­gious com­pe­ti­tions and per­form­ing along­side dis­tin­guished artists. From 2017 to 2019 Bartłomiej received the pres­ti­gious Cul­tur­al Schol­ar­ship of the May­or of Gdańsk named after Gabriel Daniel Fahren­heit, award­ed to the most tal­ent­ed Gdańsk stu­dents study­ing abroad. In 2016 he received a schol­ar­ship from the Mło­da Pol­s­ka pro­gramme of the Min­istry of Cul­ture and Nation­al Her­itage, and in 2015 and 2017 the Młody Gdańszczanin artis­tic schol­ar­ship; in 2020 he was nom­i­nat­ed for the City of Gdańsk Award for Young Cul­tur­al Cre­ators. Since May 2024 Bartłomiej has been an artist of the French per­cus­sion instru­ments com­pa­ny Berg­er­ault Percussion.

His most sig­nif­i­cant com­pe­ti­tion achieve­ments include:

- Grand Prix at the First Inter­na­tion­al Per­cus­sion Com­pe­ti­tion in Odessa (Sep­tem­ber 2019)

- 1st place at the Inter­na­tion­al Vibra­phone Com­pe­ti­tion in Opole (Octo­ber 2017)

- 1st place at the Inter­na­tion­al Vibra­phone Com­pe­ti­tion under the patron­age of UNESCO and the Percussive

Arts Soci­ety in Mon­te­sil­vano, Italy (Sep­tem­ber 2015)

- 1st place at the 10th Inter­na­tion­al Harp Duet Com­pe­ti­tion (April 2024)

- 2nd place at the Inter­na­tion­al Music Com­pe­ti­tion OPUS 2021 (May 2021)

- 2nd place at the Inter­na­tion­al Per­cus­sion Com­pe­ti­tion under the patron­age of UNESCO and the Percussive

Arts Soci­ety USA in Mon­te­sil­vano, Italy (Sep­tem­ber 2014)

Numer­ous con­certs along­side acclaimed soloists have become almost every­day life for the young musi­cian. Par­tic­i­pa­tion as soloist and cham­ber musi­cian in nation­al and inter­na­tion­al festivals

and artis­tic con­fer­ences con­tributes to the very rapid artis­tic devel­op­ment of the young per­cus­sion­ist and serves as a nat­ur­al moti­va­tion for fur­ther work.
