
Kamila Wąsik-Janiak

Skrzypce / Hashtag Ensemble
Violinist: soloist and chamber musician, educator. A graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, she completed her studies with distinction in the class of Professor Roman Lasocki, receiving the Magna cum Laude Medal for outstanding achievements as the best graduate of the university (2010). In 2018, she earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree.
She won the Karol Szymanowski International Competition in Łódź (2009), and in 2006, she received the second prize and a special award for the best Polish participant from the chairman of the jury, Professor Zakhar Bron, at the 10th Karol Lipiński and Henryk Wieniawski International Competition in Lublin. She is also a laureate of, among others, the 11th International Competition for Violin in Kloster Schöntal (Germany).
In Poland, she performed with the orchestras of most philharmonics, including the National Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, she collaborated with many renowned conductors such as Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk, Tomasz Bugaj, Czesław Grabowski, Michał Klauza, Wojciech Michniewski, Marek Pijarowski, Wojciech Rajski, Zygmunt Rychert, and Jerzy Salwarowski.
The artist has performed numerous world premieres of concertos, chamber music, and solo works, presenting these pieces both on Polish stages and abroad. Since 2015, she has been a member of the Hashtag Ensemble, a group specializing in the performance of contemporary music.
The albums she recorded with other artists have won prestigious awards: Musica Profana 1, featuring compositions by Paweł Łukaszewski, received the Fryderyk 2017 phonographic award, while Joanna Freszel’s album Real Life Song won the French critics’ award Les Orphées d’Or – Prix de la SACD, both released by the DUX label.
The violinist has performed at prominent festivals such as the Tallin Afekt Festival (Estonia 2018), the Festival of World Premieres Polish New Music in Katowice (2013), the 64th International Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój (2009), the Westdeutsche Rundfunk Musikfest in Münster (Germany 2009), and the International Student Festival in Kyoto (Japan, 2007), as well as at most major Polish music festivals (Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Jelenia Góra, Zielona Góra, Częstochowa).
In the jubilee year of the UMFC, Kamila Wąsik-Janiak graced the gala concert dedicated to His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, the heir to the British throne – Prince Charles, and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall – Camilla.
The artist worked with outstanding personalities and educators such as: Kaja Danczowska, Igor Frołow, Tadeusz Gadzina, Marina Jaszwili, Mirosław Ławrynowicz, Krzysztof Węgrzyn, and Wanda Wiłkomirska.
Kamila Wąsik-Janiak is a recipient of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Scholarship (2005 and 2009), a scholarship from the President of Gdańsk for outstanding achievements (2009), and the prestigious Młoda Polska scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2007). She currently works as an assistant professor at her alma mater.
