Kamila Wąsik-Janiak

Vio­lin­ist: soloist and cham­ber musi­cian, edu­ca­tor. A grad­u­ate of the Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­si­ty of Music in War­saw, she com­plet­ed her stud­ies with dis­tinc­tion in the class of Pro­fes­sor Roman Lasoc­ki, receiv­ing the Magna cum Laude Medal for out­stand­ing achieve­ments as the best grad­u­ate of the uni­ver­si­ty (2010). In 2018, she earned a Doc­tor of Musi­cal Arts degree.

She won the Karol Szy­manows­ki Inter­na­tion­al Com­pe­ti­tion in Łódź (2009), and in 2006, she received the sec­ond prize and a spe­cial award for the best Pol­ish par­tic­i­pant from the chair­man of the jury, Pro­fes­sor Zakhar Bron, at the 10th Karol Lip­ińs­ki and Hen­ryk Wieni­aws­ki Inter­na­tion­al Com­pe­ti­tion in Lublin. She is also a lau­re­ate of, among oth­ers, the 11th Inter­na­tion­al Com­pe­ti­tion for Vio­lin in Kloster Schön­tal (Ger­many).

In Poland, she per­formed with the orches­tras of most phil­har­mon­ics, includ­ing the Nation­al Phil­har­mon­ic Orches­tra and the Nation­al Pol­ish Radio Sym­pho­ny Orches­tra. As a soloist, she col­lab­o­rat­ed with many renowned con­duc­tors such as Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk, Tomasz Bugaj, Czesław Grabows­ki, Michał Klauza, Woj­ciech Mich­niews­ki, Marek Pijarows­ki, Woj­ciech Rajs­ki, Zyg­munt Rychert, and Jerzy Salwarowski.

The artist has per­formed numer­ous world pre­mieres of con­cer­tos, cham­ber music, and solo works, pre­sent­ing these pieces both on Pol­ish stages and abroad. Since 2015, she has been a mem­ber of the Hash­tag Ensem­ble, a group spe­cial­iz­ing in the per­for­mance of con­tem­po­rary music.

The albums she record­ed with oth­er artists have won pres­ti­gious awards: Musi­ca Pro­fana 1, fea­tur­ing com­po­si­tions by Paweł Łukaszews­ki, received the Fry­deryk 2017 phono­graph­ic award, while Joan­na Freszel’s album Real Life Song won the French crit­ics’ award Les Orphées d’Or – Prix de la SACD, both released by the DUX label.

The vio­lin­ist has per­formed at promi­nent fes­ti­vals such as the Tallin Afekt Fes­ti­val (Esto­nia 2018), the Fes­ti­val of World Pre­mieres Pol­ish New Music in Katow­ice (2013), the 64th Inter­na­tion­al Chopin Fes­ti­val in Duszni­ki-Zdrój (2009), the West­deutsche Rund­funk Musik­fest in Mün­ster (Ger­many 2009), and the Inter­na­tion­al Stu­dent Fes­ti­val in Kyoto (Japan, 2007), as well as at most major Pol­ish music fes­ti­vals (War­saw, Kraków, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Jele­nia Góra, Zielona Góra, Częstochowa).

In the jubilee year of the UMFC, Kami­la Wąsik-Jani­ak graced the gala con­cert ded­i­cat­ed to His Roy­al High­ness, the Prince of Wales, the heir to the British throne – Prince Charles, and his wife, the Duchess of Corn­wall – Camilla.

The artist worked with out­stand­ing per­son­al­i­ties and edu­ca­tors such as: Kaja Danc­zows­ka, Igor Frołow, Tadeusz Gadz­i­na, Mari­na Jaszwili, Mirosław Ławrynow­icz, Krzysztof Węgrzyn, and Wan­da Wiłkomirska.

Kami­la Wąsik-Jani­ak is a recip­i­ent of the Min­is­ter of Cul­ture and Nation­al Her­itage Schol­ar­ship (2005 and 2009), a schol­ar­ship from the Pres­i­dent of Gdańsk for out­stand­ing achieve­ments (2009), and the pres­ti­gious Mło­da Pol­s­ka schol­ar­ship award­ed by the Min­istry of Cul­ture and Nation­al Her­itage (2007). She cur­rent­ly works as an assis­tant pro­fes­sor at her alma mater.
